HIGHLIGHTS

Launched in 2007, this successful art fair has become globally recognized as a leading destination for arts and design.  In 2018 Art Dubai featured a record 103 galleries from 47 countries. First-time exhibitors numbered 25 and there were 78 returning galleries. Art Dubai Modern featured 16 galleries representing 14 countries.

  • The Galleries

Art Dubai Contemporary welcomes applications from commercial galleries around the world that operate in the primary market and have been established for at least two years.

Art Dubai Modern focuses on Modern art from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia which will showcase works by Modern masters from the 20th century (up to the year 2000).

Bawwaba (meaning gateway in Arabic) will be a new section to the fair and will feature 10 solo presentations, showing works created within the last year or conceived specifically for the fair.

Residents, dedicated to solo presentations from invited galleries whose artists will take part in a 4-8 week residency in the UAE. For the 2019 edition, Residents will focus on Latin America. The program encourages artists to immerse themselves in the local art scene to create a body of work which merges their distinct artistic practice with their surroundings. Participation in Art Dubai Residents is by invitation only.

Preceding information from the Art Dubai website.

ALSERKAL AVENUE

Dubai's purpose-built art district in the Al Quoz industrial neighborhood is the city's second best place to meet and perhaps mingle with artists, filmmakers and writers. The architect-designed warehouses are home to Gallery Isabelle van de Eyde, Grey Noise, Moo Gallery, The Third Line and Green Art Gallery to name a few of the most respected in Dubai.

DIFC

Dubai International Financial Centre

DIFC’s art galleries showcase a broad range of artwork from the region and globally.

  • Galleries

Art Space promotes contemporary Middle Eastern art.

Cuadro Fine Art Gallery activities are exhibition, education, residency and consultation. Saudi Arabian conceptual artist Manal Al Dowayan was previously hosted.

Established in 2008, Art Sawa provides a platform for regionally based artists and has grown to represent artists from the Middle East and North Africa. Recent exhibitions have included works by Syrian sculptor Mustafa Ali and Damascus-born painter Sara Shamma.

Empty Quarter - Fine Art Photography was co-founded by Saudi Arabian Princess HRH Reem Al Faisal and an Emirati, Safa Al Hamed. The Empty Quarter has the distinction of being the only gallery in the UAE and Middle East that is devoted exclusively to fine art photography.

SHARJAH BIENNIAL

Organized by Sharjah Art Foundation, the Sharjah Biennial fosters international artistic exchange and dialogue through exhibitions and experimentation. Since 1993, the Sharjah Biennial has commissioned, produced and presented large-scale public installations, performances and films by artists from around the world, bringing a broad range of contemporary art cultural programs and cultural producers to the communities of Sharjah, the UAE and the region. Sharjah Biennial 14 (SB14) will be held in March 2019, and the curators are Zoe Butt, Omar Kholeif and Claire Tancons.

Led by a destination specialist and local English-speaking guide/s as required by the itinerary.

THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES is a young and spirited nation that is rapidly becoming modern and globalized. This transition is particularly evident in the Emirate of Dubai.

Dubai is home to the tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa; there are two major airports, manmade islands in the shape of palm trees and on 20 October 2020, the Emirate will welcome the world to Expo 2020.

Each March, international dealers, collectors and the curious arrive in Dubai to experience the arts in a big way. The primary, of course, is Art Dubai; however, there are many complementary activities and events including Art Week happenings with special gallery openings in Al Quoz and Alserkal Avenue. Sikka Art Fair in the Al Fahidi district on the Creek is not to be missed.

Dubai's art season invariably spills over into Abu Dhabi with its special arts programs including the annual Abu Dhabi Music & Art Festival. The 14th Sharjah Biennial takes place 7 March-10 June 2019.

March 2019 UAE journey combines the historic and the modern; the traditional with an appropriate portion of the futuristic. Throughout the focus is an authentic introduction to the culture, heritage and people of this vibrant country. Public and private gatherings provide interaction with Emiratis and also expatriates.
